Make it a Success
Tips for Making Your Fundraising Event a Success
Here are some ideas to help make your Alex's Lemonade Stand fundraising event a big success. Every dollar helps make a difference for kids with cancer!
-
Be Creative: Include multiple ways for people to donate at your stand or event such as raffles, a silent auction, or door prizes! Decorate with the materials we send you, print out downloads from our website, or make your own decorations!
-
Use your ALSF event page: Raise funds for your event online or hold a virtual lemonade stand by using the Alex's Lemonade Stand event page that is created when you register! Send the link to your friends, family, co-workers, and classmates so that they can contribute to the cause. It is also a great way for family and friends to donate right to your page if they are unable to make your event!
-
Social Media: Use social media outlets like Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn to spread the word about your event! Join the ALSF Facebook fan page or follow us on Twitter to find out up-to-date information about what we’re doing.
-
Letter of Support: Get in touch with your ALSF Event Coach to receive a letter which includes our Tax ID number to help solicit donations from local vendors. Contact your ALSF Event Coach today to request your letter of support.
-
Sell Paper Lemons: Another way to get others involved is by selling paper lemons. Approach a local store or business and ask them to help contribute to ALSF. Do it over the course of a weekend or as a monthlong endeavor. Visit our Downloads section to print them out or ask us to send you some!
-
Accept Donations by Check: Make sure to tell your donors that they can donate to your stand by writing a check made payable to Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. They will receive a tax receipt for their donation. A “Checks Payable” sign is included in the mini pack of materials to display at your stand.
-
Accept Donations by Credit Card: You can share your page from the tools on your page and by sharing your page's QR code. Donors can select from various payment options including credit card and PayPal.
-
Accept Donations by Venmo: Visitors to your event can use the Venmo QR code available from your event page flyer. Please be sure donors include the event ID starting with "E" (ex: E1234567) in the "What's It For" section! The donations will post within a few weeks to your event page.
-
Make it Mean Something: Connect visitors to your event to the cause by honoring a local child with cancer or one of our heroes from our website. If you are interested in being matched with a local family whose child has cancer, please contact us. Other ways to make it meaningful: create a wishing well for guests to throw in change and wishes for children with cancer, display photos and stories of childhood cancer heroes from our website, and hand donors cards with childhood cancer facts on them.
-
Public Relations/Media Assistance: Invite honored guests or local celebrities to come to your stand and promote their participation. For help with garnering media attention, contact our Communications Department.
